No matter what line of work you’re
in, you do your work for someone.
Usually, that someone is a customer or a client. And in almost every career,
that customer or client has the ability to fire you, walk away, or warn others
away from your services. That makes client relationships nearly as important as
the job you actually do. A miscommunication or customer service mistake can
translate to a poor review even if you do the actual work perfectly, so –
despite all those cranky savants in the movies – you can’t be the most
successful at something if you aren’t easy to for clients to approach and work with.
Delivering a great client experience
means doing good work, of course, but that’s not all it means. There are smart
strategies you can use to encourage clients to view your relationship in a
So how do you build the best
relationships with your clients? You do everything you know you should: respond
quickly to queries, be polite, etc. Let’s get this out of the way, first:
there’s no substitute for good work. Customer service is key. So is quality in
your products – whether they be cosmetics
or children’s toys – and services, whether you’re offering legal representation
or a good massage.
But that’s not the whole equation:
you also have to encourage your clients to see your business relationship as
the success that it is, and that’s as much about branding and positioning as it
is about service with a smile.
Positioning is, in some ways, an
extension of the “substance” argument. No matter how good you are at something,
you need customers to want it. You can’t hope for customers to tailor
themselves around you, so show them instead that you’ve tailored your services
to them. When you see a law office advertised in Spanish, you’re seeing positioning: an organization is telling
clients that it offers not just a certain type of service, but a certain type of service designed
specifically for them.
before you meet them
There’s no substitute for great
service, but there are supplements to it. Walk into a run-down business and you
may be pleasantly surprised by great service, but you won’t necessarily walk
away with a purely positive memory of the experience. Great client relationships
start with expectations and presentation.
That means smart advertising and
branding. If you have a portfolio – as writers, photographers, designers, and
many other professionals should – display it through a quality service or on your own website in a way that encourages customers
to go in expecting professionalism and courtesy. Design your company’s website
to suit the mood you want your customers to expect or seek out: professionalism
for a law office, fun for a party planning service, relaxation for a spa.
power of peers
Imagine this: a customer has a great
experience at a shop and logs on to record that experience on Yelp. But on
Yelp, they find nothing but terrible reviews. Are they sure they even went to
the same shop? Is it worth voicing an opinion that is so clearly in the
minority? Pretty soon, that happy customer decides making a Yelp account to
help this failing business isn’t worth it.
absolutely happens, just as it happens when people discuss movies or
politicians: if there’s only one person in the conversation with a certain
view, it gets drowned out. Make this work to your advantage by showing your
customers positive reviews of your business. Include testimonials on your
website and in brochures. Go to any handyman or plumber’s website and you’ll see it: links to Angie’s List and to
positive media coverage. Lawyers can do the same with client testimonials.
Restaurants can link to Yelp reviews. When you share positive reviews in your
marketing materials, you’ll get clients who are mentally prepared to be
impressed with your service. That kind of mental edge is no substitute for
great service, but it is one of the strategies smart businesses use to give
themselves every chance to impress their clients.
Whether it is a holiday, special occasion, or just a token
of love, it can take a lot of time to choose a special gift for the ladies in
your life. According to statistics from topteny.com, chocolates and flowers are the
top two gifts that women usually get. If you want to be different, try some of
these suggestions the next time you need to buy for a special lady:
Personalized Makeup Bag
Most women keep some of their basic makeup supplies with
them wherever they go. Often times, these various bottles and tubes end up at
the bottom of their purse. It may take them 20 minutes to dig out what they
need. A personalized makeup bag would be ideal for work and travel. Choose a
material and neutral color that would go with her whole wardrobe. A monogram
makes the bag even more special. And, while you’re at it, throw some makeup in
If you are buying for a female wine connoisseur, you may
consider gifting her with a lovely wine rack. They come in an array of styles
and materials that would match any kitchen or wine cellar. Wine racks are a
chic way of storing and displaying her growing wine collection. Some companies
will personalize your gift for a nominal charge.
For the avid reader who is always on the go, you cannot go
wrong with giving her an electronic reader. You can find several popular brand
names at prices that will fit just about any budget. Most now also include the
ability to browse the internet and play simple online games as well! Instead of having
to lug around books and magazines, your lady can get subscriptions and order
books to read on her new gadget. Many titles can be read for free!
Gorgeous Limoges boxes were first made at porcelain
factories in Limoges, France. They are hand-painted in styles borrowed from
nature. Other themes include romantic portraits and scenes from Imperial
France. They have gilded hinges that open to allow for storing special
trinkets. Limoge boxes are collected by enthusiasts around the world,
How many times have you been forced to walk in beating rain
without an umbrella? You may have arrived at work or an important appointment
looking like a drowned rat. A beautifully-made umbrella is a thoughtful gift
that will make this situation avoidable. Choose a color and style that matches
your recipient's personality. A quality umbrella will quickly become part of
your lady's wardrobe. She will be ready--no matter what the weather is.
There is something therapeutic about chronicling your day
and recording your deepest feelings. According to an article from PsychCentral.com, journaling provides holistic
benefits to body, mind, and spirit. It makes an ideal gift for the woman who
loves to write or draw little illustrations. They come in any kind of material,
color, and style imaginable. Pick out one for your lady that reminds you of her
personality. Adding a monogram or customized quote is always a nice touch.
Watches are as lovely as they are practical. The good thing
about them is that you can find quality timepieces within your budget. Each
style of watch says something about the lady who wears it. There are simple
watches with leather bands, or intricate gold watches enrobed in diamonds. A
watch is perfect for professional women who really need to manage their time.
Her Tool Kit
The independent women on your gift list do not want to call
a man every time they have a household repair. Get her started on her
maintenance list with a personalized tool kit. Go to a home improvement store
and purchase a blank paint can. Using paint made for metal, paint your bucket a
subtle shade of pink. You can stencil the word "Tools" on it or the
recipient's name. Now, fill the bucket with some commonly used tools such as a
hammer, pliers, level, etc. It is a pretty way of getting a tough job done.
What could be more frustrating than digging for some spare
change on a toll road? A car organizer keeps everything where it needs to be.
It is a thoughtful gift for the lady who has to spend a lot of time on the
An Original Work Of Art
There are little shops popping up all over the place that
specialize in customized art gifts. If you like ceramics, you can go to one of
these shops and customize dishes, vases, or ornaments for your lady. There are
art shops that teach you how to do paintings in oil, water, or chalk. When you
give her a piece of art done by you, it will make the gift even more
Planning a wedding is no easy task. It should be the best day of your life, but instead, you’ll have a heap of stress on your shoulders. You’ll have to consider a variety of different aspects. If you’ve planned a large party, you’ll have some idea of what’s involved. But, we all know a wedding requires a whole new level of organization. As such, it’ll be an even harder task to get right. By the time the day comes, you’ll be glad to see the back of it if you take too much planning on your shoulders. But, what if you didn’t have to do it all yourself?
People are reluctant to contact wedding planners for a variety of reasons. It can sometimes be seen as admittance of failure. Other brides can plan their weddings, so why couldn’t you? There’s also the worry that someone else won’t do your day justice. A wedding is a personal thing. How can you guarantee that your wedding planner will do you justice? In truth, though, admitting you need help with a wedding is no failure. If anything, asking for help is a strength, and your wedding will be better for it. And, if you work closely with the wedding planner you choose, you can be sure they’ll plan a wedding which will suit you. A good planner should ask about your tastes and cater to them. That’s what they’re there for!
So, what does a wedding planner do? In short; it’s up to you. They can do everything if you want them to. They can take care of the down and dirty planning so you don’t have to. They’ll hire photographers like Vittore Buzzi to ensure you capture your special day. They’ll organize a venue to save you the worry. They can even take care of catering. Or, you could specify the jobs you want to entrust to them. At the end of the day, it never stops being your wedding. You can take as much of a backseat as you want to, or you can take control of certain aspects and let your planner do the rest.
But, why is this an option worth taking? As mentioned above, planning is stressful. And, if it’s not something you’re used to, you may find the experience overwhelming. A wedding planner can take that stress from you and put it on their knowledgeable shoulders. As opposed to you, they’re used to the process. They do it for a living. And, because they know what they’re doing, you can be sure they’ll provide your day with a professional finish. If you get too stressed and your anxiety levels are through the roof you may want to google therapist for me so you can talk to a professional about your issues before the big day. Though your wedding is sure to be a success no matter what, there will be a noticeable difference in quality if you entrust the job to a professional. Your planning, no matter how much effort you put it, may not reach the standards you dream of. But, a professional planner, will ensure everything looks top quality. It’s the best way to get a wedding fit for royalty!
Shyran and David booked with us because they knew they needed some help pulling a timeline together, a resource to ask wedding questions along the way and to have us there to manage the day so they could relax and enjoy their day. They are just a very kind and sweet couple and we enjoyed helping them prepare for the big day!
